I was asked to duplicate something seen on Zulily. This shirt is for a family going to Disney World and I am loving it!
Supplies Needed:
Black t-shirt (I used a 18 month size shirt)
Red and White Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon 1 1/2" width x 26" length (This will need to fit around the t-shirt, so the length will vary)
Red and White Polka Dot Grosgrain Ribbon 1 1/2" width x 12" length
Black Grosgrain Ribbon 1 1/2" width x 30" length
Black Grosgrain Ribbon 7/8" width x 4" length
Sewing machine with red thread
Straight Pins
Scissors
Wood Burner Tool (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Wash and dry your t-shirt.
Step 2: Cut all of your ribbons to the correct sizes. The red and white polka dot ribbon should be measured to fit around the shirt. Measure it so that you can overlap the ribbon about two inches at the end. Cut this ribbon straight on the edges. Both of the 1 1/2" width ribbons should be cut at a diagonal.
Step 3: Seal the edges with the wood burner tool. If you do not have this tool, you can skip this step.
Step 4: Pin the ribbon around the shirt. I gave a little bit of room for the shirt to stretch when pinning the ribbon. Overlap the edges of the ribbon on the front side where the bow is going to go.
Step 5: Sew the ribbon to the shirt. Be sure to sew close to the edge of the ribbon.
Step 6: To make the small bow, overlap the ends of the ribbon making one circle.
Step 7: Sew the middle where the ribbon overlaps.
Step 8: Pinch the middle pulling the thread tight.
Step 9: Wrap the thread several times around the middle of the bow, securing the shape. Tie a knot.
Step 10: To make the large bow, overlap the ends making two loops. Put a pin in the middle and pull apart the ribbon to make an X shape.
Step 11: Sew through the middle of the ribbon.
Step 12: Pinch the middle and pull the thread tight. Wrap the thread around the bow and tie a knot to secure the shape.
Step 13: Glue the small bow to the large bow at the center.
Step 14: Glue the end of the 7/8" width black ribbon to the middle of the back of the large bow. Wrap it around the bow and glue down on the back side. You can also hand stitch this together for extra security. I did both.
Step 15: Hand stitch the bow to the shirt. Be sure that it is nice and secure.
Enjoy your Zulily inspired t-shirt! This version is perfectly Disney themed, but there are so many possibilities that could be designed!
