Instagram Summer 2012

I've been writing this post for a while, but have finally decided to post it.  It's been a while since I have posted anything, but working two jobs and going back to school is a lot to take in!  I don't like to use the "I"ve been busy" excuse since we are all busy (if we were not then we would be bored)!

This summer has been a blast! My age is full of fun memories but with a lot of decisions about the rest of our lives.  As I said, I am now back in school for my second degree in graphic design.  It is a strange feeling knowing I don't have to go to school, but I want to do this.

Peacock Feather Earrings Tutorial

I am a little behind with these earrings, but I still wanted to share this easy tutorial!  I bought the supplies to make these earrings probably over a year ago.  When I had a break from all my craft projects, I realized I had never gotten around to making these peacock feather earrings!

The Little Mermaid Dance Recital Gifts

This year for recital we did the Little Mermaid as our huge ballet production!  We had a lot of fun dancing "Under the Sea" and choreographing our mermaid inspired dances!  Each year I like to get something little for all of my girls for their hard work all year.  I always am looking out for cute favors that match our ballet theme.

These gum ball tubes were perfect and so easy to customize!

Good Luck Gifts

For competition, I made my solo students little metal candy tins as a good luck gift.  I only have four girls who are doing solos at recital, but I wanted to do the same thing for them as my other girls.  Here is my recital edition of this easy gift idea!

Nail Polish Dance Recital Gifts

I teach several lyrical classes at dance and the girls wear shoes that show their toe nails.  For Recital each year, I like to give them nail polish. This way they can all have matching polished nails!

Welcome To Our Lake House Sign

Summer has begun! It's the best time of the year with many trips to the lake, swimming, recital, my birthday :), and more time to hang with friends and family!

I was asked to redo this metal sign that has not kept up with the weather.  Since the paper didn't hold up the last time, I knew I didn't want to use too much this time.

Fabric Rosette Broach Tutorial

Do you ever wander what to do with old scraps of fabric?  This is an awesome way to use up those old strips!

I have had a dress form in my bedroom for quite some time now and I've named her Sally.  She has been a great hat and scarf display, but I have not really decorated the front too much.  What I really want to do is have a lot of broaches and flowers in a diagonal across the front.  I have gotten some, but not that many.  I decided that I now want to add to Sally by making pins to put on her!

Supplies Needed:
3 Fabric Strips 1 1/2" width
Needle and Thread
Scissors
White Felt
Hot Glue Gun
Pin

Kentucky Derby!

This past weekend was the Kentucky Derby and Oaks! We went to the Oaks, which is the Friday before Derby. Here are some of my phone pictures of Churchill Downs! We had a blast betting horses and watching all of the gorgeous hats walk around!

Derby Fascinators

I have been working on my friends' hairpieces for this year's Kentucky Derby, well actually the Oaks.  We had some pretty easy additions that we wanted to add.

I bought my fascinator which is an off white color.  I was planning on wearing a coral dress so I added the coral spring feathers!

The same thing went with my friends; we added the navy spring flowers.  I also made the navy ribbon bow to go in the center and tie in the navy of her dress.

For my other friend, we simply turned a fascinator on a comb to a headband.

I also handmade this clip to match my friend's dress.  The tutorial can be found here!

I love how these turned out and this time of year is so much fun in Louisville!

Kentucky Derby Fascinator Tutorial

Red Netting (4" width)
Red Felt Circle
2 Red Felt Strips (1/2" x 3")
2 red feathers (about 6" long)
Navy Spring Feathers
Red Fabric Rose
Metal Aligator Clip
Needle and Red Thread
Hot Glue Gun

Floating Desk

I needed a desk in my room, but I do not have the room to take up more floor space.  I originally saw this desk and knew I wanted a similar one for my room.  Then I came across this desk and immediately knew the two could be combined!

Vintage Frame Redo Part 2

Frame Redo Tutorial

A couple of weeks ago, I showed you my new painted vintage frame.  I'm going to show you how I made it into a memo board that's perfect above my desk in my room.  It is a great way to reuse an old frame that you love!

Feather Hair Clip

Feather Hair Clip
This was another easy headpiece that I created for one of my duet routines.  The girls danced to "Set Fire to the Rain" by Adele.  I wanted a headpiece that reminded you of flames, but was still feminine.

Tulle Dance Top Tutorial

This top went with the tulle heart bow I posted last week.  My soloist wore this with a tutu and silver booty shorts.  I wanted something that went across here belly so it wasn't completely bare.  The tulle was a great addition and helped tie into her song, "Warm It Up With Love."

Tulle Heart Hair Bow Tutorial

My studio has competed twice now and we are doing great!  This weekend is our last competition and I have a couple more dances at this one.  I had fun embellishing one of the my girl's costume for her solo routine.  It was a solid silver costume, but I wanted a splash of red.  The song is called "Warm It Up With Love," so I thought that hearts would also be a cute addition!

Dreaming of Spring: Jean Short Redo

With Daylight Savings keeping the days lighter longer and the gorgeous weather, I am getting Spring Fever!  I want to get my Spring/Summer clothes ready for the warm weather.  I had this pair of shorts that had a rip in them and missing buttons, so I wanted to fix the rip and decorate them a bit.

"Welcome Little Sweetea" Bunting

I am excited to show my first Etsy sale!  I was requested to make this bunting for an awesome mom at dance.  She was throwing a baby shower based on the book "Little Sweeteas."  The shower was absolutely gorgeous!  She had adorable "cutie cakes" and "sweetie pie fruit salads!"  The banner was a perfect touch to bring the party together!

Tutu Shorts Costume Tutorial

One of my girls at dance picked out a costume online that was way too expensive for what it was.  I knew that I could make her the same thing for way less.  Also, I could add the embellishments as it was being made.

Here is our inspiration from The Line Up costume company:

Before Pinterest

With Pinterest exploding with popularity, it's hard to imagine what we use to do before it existed!  When I joined last summer, only 3 of my Facebook friends had an account!  Now most of my friends and family are "pinning," as I'm sure the same is true with you!  I use to keep a folder on my computer with anything I found cute online.  Basically the same concept without the links to the site and not as cool!

Here are some of the items I kept that I thought were cute and worth saving!
A lot of these I have gone back and found and pinned.
