Vintage Frame Redo Part 2

Frame Redo Tutorial

A couple of weeks ago, I showed you my new painted vintage frame.  I'm going to show you how I made it into a memo board that's perfect above my desk in my room.  It is a great way to reuse an old frame that you love!

Here is my red frame.

Supplies Needed:
An Old Frame (spray painted if you like)
Unframed Cork Board (needs to fit half of the frame)
Chalk Board Vinyl
Thin Piece of Wood (needs to fit half of the frame)
Jig Saw
Cardboard Box
Hot Glue Gun
1 1/2" Width Grosgrain Ribbon (that matches the frame)
Xacto Knife
Marker

This is my cork board and chalk board vinyl.

Step 1: Find the center of the frame and measure how big each board needs to be.  For this frame I needed two 10 1/2" x boards.

Step 2: Draw your cut lines on both the thin piece of wood and the cork board.

Step 3: Using your jig saw, cut out the rectangles.  (My dad helped with this step!)

Step 4: Glue the wood to a piece of cardboard that is a little bit larger.

Step 5: Cut the excess cardboard off with your Xacto knife.

Step 6: Repeat for the other side of the wood.  Glue the cardboard and cut off the excess.

Step 7: Next you want to attach the chalk board vinyl to the smoothest side of the wood/cardboard.

Step 8: Cut the excess vinyl off with your Xacto knife.

Step 9: Cut your grosgrain ribbon to fit the width of the frame.  This will go in the middle to cover where the cork board and chalk board meet.

Step 10: Glue the ribbon to the inside edge of the frame.  Makes sure to pull it tight.

Step 11: Glue both boards to the inside edge of the frame.  You will only be gluing to three sides of each board.

Step 12: Lift the ribbon and glue it down to the top of both boards.

Step 13: Cut a piece of card board that is 1/2" to 1" larger than both the cork board and chalk board.

Step 14: Glue the cardboard to the back side of the frame.  Be sure to use glue in all areas so that it is secure.

Step 15: Make sure that the hook is going the proper direction.  I had to switch mine to horizontal.

Enjoy your new vintage frame that is very useful!
