Red Stripe Bow Tutorial
Supplies needed:
22" of 1 1/2" wide red stripe ribbon
3 1/4" of 1/4" wide white ribbon
6" of 1/4" wide black ribbon
2 3/4" long metal barrette
Hot Glue and Gun
Needle and White Thread
Straight Pin
Wood burner tool (optional)
Stiffen Stuff Spray (optional)
Prepare the ribbon:
Step 1: To prepare the ribbon, cut the 22" strip diagonally on the ends. Take the wood burner tool to seal the edges. If you do not have this tool, that is okay, it just helps make the bow last longer and look better.
Prepare the barrette:
Step 2: To prepare the barrette, take the barrette apart by opening it and removing the middle piece. Take the 3 1/4" long white ribbon and glue it to the top of the barrette.
Here is the covered barrette:
Make the bow:
Step 3: First roll the ribbon so that there are two loops total.
Step 4: Take a straight pin and pin it through the center of the ribbon roll. Next open up the roll, creating the two loops.
Step 5: With the threaded needle, sew up the middle of the ribbon.
Step 6: Pull the needle through and wrap the thread around the bow at least two times.
Step 7: Pull the thread tight to create the gather at the center of the bow. Next, tie a knot so that the bow stays put.
Step 8: Glue on the bow to the center of the prepared ribbon.
Step 9: Now glue the black ribbon to the center of the open barrette.
Step 10: Wrap the ribbon around the bow and glue it down on the other black ribbon. Cut off the extra ribbon.
Step 11: At this point, I fluff up the bow and spray it with the Stiffen Stuff Spray. This keeps the bow full and looking great!
Now you can replace the center of the barrette and you are finished!
